How Righto handles your account and service data.
Your Righto account
Righto requires an account for normal application use.
You are not required to provide your name, phone number or postal address when creating a standard Righto account. Your email address is used to create and authenticate your account and allow you to sign in using a one-time code.
Righto also creates an internal account identifier and profile record associated with your account. A display name may be automatically derived from part of your email address for internal account purposes.
Information Righto stores
Depending on how you use Righto, information associated with your account may include:
- your email address and account identifier
- articles you have saved
- articles in your Recently Viewed history
- feedback you submit
- account and service timestamps
- account preferences and related technical account information
Righto does not require you to provide your name, phone number or postal address for normal application use.
Saved and Recently Viewed
Saved articles and Recently Viewed history are linked to your signed-in Righto account so these features can work across sessions and devices.
When you save an article, Righto records the association between your account and that article.
When you view an article while signed in, Righto may record the article and the time it was viewed so it can appear in your Recently Viewed history.
This account-linked reading history is separate from Righto's aggregate usage analytics described below.
Feedback
If you submit feedback, Righto stores the feedback you provide and associates it with your signed-in account. Feedback may also be associated with the relevant article where applicable.
Feedback is available to authorised Righto administrators for the purpose of reviewing feedback, correcting or improving content and managing the service.
Do not include personal, confidential or sensitive information about yourself or another person in feedback unless it is necessary.
Usage analytics
Righto collects limited aggregate usage information to understand how the application is being used and to improve its content and features.
This can include information such as:
- how many times an article is viewed
- which articles are viewed most frequently
- which topics, categories or scenarios are used most frequently
- how often a search returns no results
- how often a guide is completed
- aggregate counts of actions such as saving or sharing
These aggregate usage counts are designed to measure overall activity rather than identify individual users.
Righto's aggregate usage counters do not store your email address, account identifier, search text or decision-tree answers.
This allows Righto to identify useful or trending content without using the aggregate analytics system to identify who viewed that content.
Aggregate analytics are separate from account-linked features such as Saved articles and Recently Viewed.
Advertising and profiling
Righto does not currently use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
Righto does not sell your personal information or use your reading activity to build advertising profiles.
Righto may introduce or change analytics services in the future to understand application performance and usage. If this materially changes how personal information or usage information is collected, used or disclosed, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
Service operation and security
Righto uses operational and error logging to maintain, secure and troubleshoot the service.
Righto is designed to limit sensitive information included in application error reporting. The application does not intentionally include feedback content, search queries or individual article-reading events in its operational logs.
Cloud and infrastructure providers may process technical information necessary to operate, secure and troubleshoot their services. This may include information such as authentication, request, device, browser, network or security information.
Righto takes reasonable steps to protect information held through the service, but no online service or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Cloud services and service providers
Righto uses cloud service providers to operate functions including authentication, account management, application data storage and technical infrastructure.
These providers may process information on Righto's behalf where necessary to provide and secure the service.
Righto does not currently make a representation that all information is stored or processed exclusively in Australia.
Data location and overseas processing
Righto uses cloud-based infrastructure and service providers whose systems, subprocessors, backups or technical services may operate in Australia or overseas.
The precise location in which particular information is processed or retained may depend on the infrastructure and service providers used by Righto.
Righto will update this Privacy Policy where necessary as its infrastructure or service-provider arrangements change.
Browser and device storage
Righto uses limited browser and device storage to operate features of the application.
This may include authentication information required to keep you signed in, application preferences, temporary guide progress and other information necessary for application functionality.
Righto may also use essential cookies or similar technologies for application interface and service functionality.
These technologies are not currently used by Righto for behavioural advertising.
Data retention
Account-associated information is retained while it is required to provide your Righto account and related features, unless it is deleted earlier or needs to be retained for legitimate operational, security or legal purposes.
Aggregate usage counts that do not contain your account identifier may be retained after your account is deleted.
Technical logs, security records, backups and information processed by service providers may be retained for periods determined by operational, security, legal or provider requirements.
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your Righto account through Account settings.
Deleting your account removes the active Righto account and account-linked application records including your Saved articles, Recently Viewed history and feedback associated with that account.
Some administrative records may remain without being linked to your deleted account.
Aggregate usage counts are not linked to your account and are not removed when an account is deleted.
Technical logs, security records or backup copies maintained by infrastructure or service providers may remain for limited periods in accordance with operational, security, legal or provider requirements.
Access and correction
You can access certain information associated with your account through Righto, including your account email, Saved articles and Recently Viewed history.
If you believe personal information held by Righto is incorrect, or you would like to request access to or correction of information that cannot be managed through the application, you can contact Righto using the contact details provided in this Privacy Policy.

If you have a question, concern or complaint about how Righto handles personal information, you can contact Righto using the contact details provided below.
Righto will take reasonable steps to review and respond to privacy enquiries and complaints.

Righto may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the application, its features, legal requirements, service providers or privacy practices.
The current version will be made available through Righto.
